Where is camp?

Camp will take place at the Empire Room on 200 S 31st Ave #4107 Omaha NE 68132. You can pull up right in the inner circle of Turner Park on 31st Street near the building identified as #7 on the map. Please see a map of Turner Park here.

What Time is camp?

There are two sessions of camp each day, broken out by age group.

  • Kids (ages 6-10) will have camp from 9 a.m.- noon.

  • Teens (11-17) will have camp from 12:30 - 4 p.m.

Tell me about drop off & pick Up

Each camper will be assigned to a small group that will be led by a dedicated camp counselor. Each small group will have it's own color. This color will be your guide for drop-off and pick-up. You will see the counselors lined up outside of Empire Room on the sidewalk, holding colored signs. At drop-off, your child should go to the counselor holding the sign for the assigned group color. You or whomever is picking up your child should look for that same color at pick-up to find your child. Each counselor will have a list of campers they are responsible for to ensure everyone is dropped off and picked up. This new procedure will help parents get in and out of camp in a more timely manner.

  • Kids Camp Drop Off Time: 8:50-9 a.m.

  • Preteen/Teen Drop Off Time: 12:20-12:30 p.m.

We understand that sometimes people run late. If you arrive after the above drop off times, please park and bring your camper into the venue. Campers will be released promptly at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. If you are running late, please park and come into the venue to pick up your camper. This policy is subject to change in the event of rain or extreme heat.

Who leads camp?

Omaha Fashion Camp was founded by Brook and Alyssa Dilts in 2014. Since then nearly 1,000 kids have gone through Omaha Fashion Camp. One of those kids from our very first camp, Sydney Moore, is now the Camp Leader. Sydney got her start in the first Omaha Fashion Camp back in 2014 and has been on the OFW runway many times as a model and a designer since. She works as a fashion stylist and an assistant at Develop Model Management. Campers are led in small groups by a team of camp counselors, many of whom are former fashion campers themselves!

How do you manage all those kids?

Great question! We divide campers into small groups of similar ages and experience. Each group is identified by a color. This color is used at drop-off/pick-up and helps campers identify their work table in the venue. All campers work in the same large space and have access to one supply station, so there is lots of opportunity to mingle with campers from other groups. We do not take special requests for campers to be in the same group. Part of this experience is meeting new people and making new friends. If we sat kids together who knew each other, this opportunity for social expansion would be missed.

Can my teen be a camp INtern?

Yes!! If your teen has been in camp for a few years and would like to transition to a leadership role as a camp intern, he or she can apply starting in April. The application is posted on the Omaha Fashion Week and Develop Model Management Instagram accounts. Watch for it there!

Is there new material each year?

While the basic skill lessons remain the same, we incorporate new materials and give campers the freedom to create their own projects during lab time so they can build their skills over time. This is self-directed learning. Many campers come back for several years, and their projects become progressively more advanced. We have seen several go on to design for Omaha Fashion Week and build a portfolio that gets them into top fashion schools. Additionally we bring in industry experts at the end of the week, either in person or on zoom, to share their experiences and inspire our campers.

What should my camper bring?

We provide all of the materials and equipment your child needs to have a great fashion camp experience. All your child needs is a positive attitude and a water bottle labeled with his or her name!

Do you provide material & machines?

Yes! We provide all of the material, notions, supplies and machines required for your child to have a great experience at camp. Thanks to Goodwill for stocking our Goodwill Pop Up Shop with racks and racks of clothes ready for up-cycling and re-styling! All sewing machines are provided by South High School, Omaha’s most comprehensive high school fashion program. South High FACS (family and consumer sciences) faculty are on hand during the Preteen & Teen sessions to help students complete their projects for the end-of-week fashion show.

What’s the snack sitch?

We provide nut-free snacks and gluten free options during camp. We also provide water for campers. Please have your child bring their own labeled water bottle so they can stay hydrated.

is there a fashion show at the end of camp?

There will be an in-person sharing at the end of the week for parents to enjoy! The sharing will be on Friday, the last day of camp. Kids Camp sharing is at 11 a.m. and Preteens/Teens is at 3 p.m. We have room to accommodate two guests per camper. Siblings in laps don’t count towards the two person per camper limit. You are welcome to take photos of your child to share with family. Please respect the privacy of other kids in camp by refraining from sharing pics of children from other families on social media.

Do teens really get to be in Omaha Fashion Week?

Yes! Our preteen & teen campers are all invited to show their work on the Omaha Fashion Week Runway in August at the Omaha Design Center. We will have a special ticket price for parents who want to watch their child shine on the Midwest’s biggest runway! More information will be coming from Omaha Fashion Week about this opportunity.
