Hello Fashion Camp Families!
We had a fantastic first day at Omaha Fashion Camp! This marks our 11th year of camp, and each summer it is such a joy to welcome your children through our doors. We're so grateful for our incredible partners at South High, who generously provide a sewing machine for every camper, and to Goodwill Omaha, who keep our Pop-Up Shop stocked with items and fabrics our campers can up-cycle into something amazing!
Here’s a quick look at what we accomplished today:
Today’s Theme: Confidence, Creativity, and Personal Style
We kicked off camp by getting to know one another and exploring what fashion means to us. Campers reflected on personal style, confidence, and where they find inspiration. From there, they dove into hands-on projects that helped them practice interview skills, explore their creativity, and begin work on their fashion show projects for Friday!
Kids Camp Highlights:
Learned how to thread a needle
Sewed an initial and a shape on the styrofoam plates
Practiced sewing a button (using the shapes plate)
Added smaller buttons to create a garden design
Created personal invitations to Friday’s Fashion Show
Coming Home Today: 2 sewn plates and a fashion show invitation!
Pre-Teen/Teen Camp Highlights:
Learned basic hand sewing techniques
Created felt envelope bags (*repeat campers learned advanced stitches!)
Explored mood boards and pulled inspirational images from magazines
Learned the different parts and got familiar with sewing machines
Began brainstorming a personal fashion brand and designing logos
Visited the Goodwill Pop-Up Shop to start imagining their “flipped” fashion looks
We can’t wait for what’s ahead this week, and we’re so proud of how much the campers have already accomplished. Stay tuned for more updates, and don’t forget to join us for the Fashion Show on Friday!
With excitement,
The Omaha Fashion Camp Team
