Celebrating 12 Years of Fashion Education at Omaha Fashion Camp

How Can My Kid Get Involved in Fashion?

It’s one of the questions we hear most often from parents in Omaha: How can my kid get involved in fashion? Omaha Fashion Week owner Brook Hudson and Alyssa Dilts owner of Develop Model Management, longtime friends and collaborators, have a great answer.

As school budgets tighten, kids have fewer opportunities to learn about fashion in a traditional classroom setting. Home economics classes are mostly a thing of the past, and kids who are interested in fashion, design, or creative careers don’t always have an outlet to explore those interests or learn basic skills like sewing.

Omaha Fashion Camp was created 12 years ago to fill that gap.

At camp, kids are introduced to a wide range of fashion-related subjects so they can explore what excites them. Campers learn hands-on skills like sewing and sketching, and they also get exposure to modeling, styling, and photography. Everything is taught by industry professionals in a supportive, inclusive environment that encourages creativity and confidence.

Over the past twelve years, we’ve welcomed hundreds of kids, ages 6–10 and 11–17, into a world that can sometimes feel out of reach here in the Midwest. Many campers have gone on to participate in Omaha Fashion Week, build strong portfolios through OFW, and use those experiences to pursue fashion education at top schools across the country, including Parsons and FIT in New York and FIDM in Los Angeles.

Each August, we also showcase select campers’ designs during Omaha Fashion Week—giving campers the exciting opportunity to experience a professionally produced fashion show and see their work celebrated on the runway.

If your child is curious about fashion, creativity, or design, Omaha Fashion Camp is a fun and educational way to explore those interests. We’d love to meet your kids at camp this summer!
